In July 2019, Anthropos intends to deploy to the village of Seixal, Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal, to undertake an initial scoping project of the surrounding landscape.

The plot of land, in private ownership, is un-fallowed and situated at Chão da Ribeira, Seixal, a region of densely populated terraced farmland.

Aims of the Project

  1. Identify the stratification of the landmass, and to
  2. Present evidence of agricultural activity dating to the time of settlement by Portuguese colonialists (c. Sixteenth Century).
